Cookery Industry Taster Elective - VCE 2023
Short Courses Australia's Cookery Elective is an introduction to food preparation within the hospitality industry and provides students with a set of skills and compliance certificates necessary for entry level employment within a Restaurant or Café, in a food services role.
Students earn their food safety certificates and develop food preparation skills and serve a variety of popular dishes within a simulated kitchen environment.

Block Credit - 90 Nominal Hours
The Hospitality Industry Taster Elective equals one Block Credit of 90 Nominal Hours:
VCE VET Elective
- For VCE Students it provides a Credit at Unit 1 & 2.
Vocational Major (VM)
- For VCE VM students it provides 90 of 180 nominal hours required of VET at Certificate II level.
Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC)
- For VPC students it meets the requirement of the new certificate.

Duration
The Cookery Industry Taster Elective is delivered across 1 Semester, or 2 Terms.
Students attending Campus attend weekly 4 Hour Practical Classes, over 2 Terms, and are also required to complete self-paced projects, online learning and participate in formative assessment activities.
VET Material Fees
In 2023, a two-band VET materials funding model applies (High-cost materials funding band and Low-cost materials funding band). The level of funding received is based on VET enrolments, and payments will be received as quarterly cash grants through the Student Resource Package.
Each VET enrolment will be allocated $250 for certificates that sit within the low-cost materials funding band and $450 for those that sit within the high-cost materials funding band.

Structured Workplace Learning (SWL)
The Victorian Curriculum & Assessment Authority (VCAA) recommends work placement and to liaise with your Local Learning Employment Network (LLEN).
Short Courses Australia includes our JOB CAMP learning module for secondary students that covers resume writing, job search and the interview process.
Block Credit Recognition In The VCE
VCE Student, VCE Vocational Major (VM) and Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) students receive a Credit towards their VCE, VCE VM or VPC for each 90 hour block elective of VET completed. For more information visit https://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/getvet

Employment Pathways
On completion of the Cookery Industry Taster Elective a student will be able to apply for entry level employment within a café, restaurant or food preparation business.
Study Pathways
A student can use their learning to continue their vocational education and training through enrolment in the Certificate II in Cookery, Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, SBAT, Traineeship or Apprenticeship
