NSW Food Authority - Food Safety Supervisor Course Parramatta
Short Courses Australia is an approved Food Safety Supervisor (FSS) training provider as listed on the NSW Food Authority.
A Food Safety Supervisor is required to hold a NSW Food Authority FSS Certificate which includes the national unit competencies SITXFSA006 Participate in safe food handling practices (Level 2) and SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety (level 1)
Short Courses Australia also provide training in the national unit of competence SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety.
Courses are delivered via face to face in a classroom setting at our colleges across Parramatta and New South Wales.
This (8) eight-hour course incorporates both Level 1 Food Safety (SITXFSA005) and Level 2 Food safety Supervisor (SITXFSA006) the knowledge requirements to handle food safely during the storage, preparation, display, service and disposal of food. It requires the ability to follow predetermined procedures as outlined in a venue’s food safety program, which is based around the key HACCP principles.
The course applies to all organisations deemed to require a food safety program as determined by local governments. This includes restaurants, cafes, clubs, and hotels; tour operators; attractions; function, event, exhibition and conference catering; educational institutions; aged care facilities; correctional centres; hospitals; defence forces; cafeterias, kiosks, canteens and fast-food outlets; residential catering; in-flight and other transport catering.
It applies to all food handlers including: cooks, chefs, head chefs, caterers, kitchen hands and food and beverage attendants / supervisors, managers, owners and key stakeholders.
The food safety supervisor course covers the following criteria:
- Follow food safety program.
- Store food safely.
- Prepare food safely.
- Provide safe single use items.
- Maintain a clean environment.
- Dispose of food safely.
Failing to comply with the Food Act 1984 (the Act) requirements may lead to:
- Refusal of the registration, renewal of the registration or transfer of the registration of the food premises
- Revocation or suspension of registration of the food premises.

Please note - you do not need to print or bring this to your session, SCA will provide a hard copy on the day of your session.
Completion
Upon successful completion of this SITXFSA006 Participate in safe food handling practices course, you will receive paper based NSW Food Authority certificate as well as digital copies of the national unit of competence SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety and SITXFSA006 Participate in safe food handling practices.

Part 2 - SITXFSA006 Participate in safe food handling practices (Afternoon)
Students must complete both SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety, Level 1 & SITXFSA006 Participate in safe food handling practices Level 2
National Unit
*Students can use the statement of attainment SITXFSA006 Participate in safe food handling practices. Throughout VIC, NSW, ACT, QLD, SA, NT, WA & TAS.
If you are to use this certificate outside of NSW in some cases, after completion of this unit, state and territory food authorities may require candidates to complete a bridging course to address these specific differences.
