SWIMMING POOL & SPA BARRIER SAFETY INSPECTION COURSE 

Short Courses Australia is an approved provider of the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) Pool Safety Inspectors Course (VBAISP2020).

Participants who complete this course and who can demonstrate at least 6 months of practical industry experience with an approved Inspector can then submit an application to the VBA for registration in the class of Building Inspector (Pool Safety).

 

Building Inspector (Pool Safety) 

A person registered in the class of Building Inspector (Pool safety) is responsible for carrying out all the functions of a swimming pool and spa inspector under the Building Act 1993 and Part 9A of the Building Regulations 2018, including:

  • undertaking inspections of swimming pool and spa barriers to determine compliance with the applicable barrier standard;
  • issuing certificates of pool and spa barrier compliance;
  • issuing certificates of pool and spa barrier non-compliance;
  • lodging certificates of pool and spa barrier non-compliance with the relevant council.

 

Course Outline

The Pool & Spa Safety Inspector Course is delivered over 5 days, across a 10 week period, 1 day per fortnight. Participants must attend each session and successfully complete course work and assessment tasks.

 

Assessment

Participants must demonstrate knowledge and competence by undertaking pool and spa inspections. These inspections will be carried out at various venues across Melbourne.

The cost of the course includes supporting completion of 15 inspections (live or simulated) under the supervision of a VBA accredited inspector (the Trainer).

 

Australian Standards

The cost of the course does not include a copy of the Australian Standards. You will be required to purchase AS1926.1- 1993, 2007, and 2012. The standards can be purchased from SAI Global.

 

Six Months Experience

For your VBA application you are required to hold at least six months experience in pool inspection work under the guidance of a VBA regsitered pool inspector. You must demonstrate experience that involves the required breadth, responsibility, and application of relevant knowledge to undertake pool barrier inspection work.

Typically, this would include evidence of having participated in at least 25 home pool and/or spa barrier safety compliance inspections, under the supervision of a person registered to undertake pool barrier inspection work, in the last 7 years. This experience must be accompanied with a signed techinical refferee from the VBA registered supervising inspector.

Short Courses Australia has partnered with multiple VBA (Victorian Building Authority) Registered Pool Inspectors across Victoria to support course participants gain access to the extra "live" inspections for your application. These inspections will be at the discretion of the individual inspectors and are subject to the availability of the Pool Inspector and suitable inspections (Additional costs may apply)
