Confined Space Course Melbourne

In this Confined Space course, you will learn the skills to enter confined spaces, for maintenance, servicing of vessels or other necessary reasons. You will also learn skills to understand permits and their limitations for confined spaces as well as the observer role for permits requiring a safety observer.

Working in a confined space is governed by AS 2865:2009 Safe Working in a Confined Space to ensure the safety and health of any person required to enter a confined space for work or inspection.

A confined space may be an area of restricted entry and exit, may have an atmosphere which contains potentially harmful levels of a contaminant, unsafe levels of oxygen or may cause engulfment. This includes any works carried out in culvert & storm water system, pipes & live or inactive sewer mains/tunnels, shafts, duct & access chambers, pits, trenches, gullies, environmental traps & tanks, box girders & bridge voids, storage tanks, process vessel, boilers, pressure vessels, soil and other tank like compartments and tank cars A space becomes a defined confined space if work carried out in it could generate harmful concentrations of airborne contaminants.

Confined Space Course Duration

*Students can either book in Day 1 - Day 1 & 2 Combined or Day 2 ONLY*

Re-requisites for day 2 include successful completion of some Day 1 units of competency.

Our Confined Space course will teach you to identify hazards, assess risks and implement control measures. (risk assessments) You will learn to use appropriate signage at each entry of the space. You will become aware of ventilation in confined space and the procedures. You will learn to follow procedures and make sure all use of equipment and work in the confined space is compliant with policies, procedures and safety recommendations.

Confined Space Course Prerequisites

The following pre-requisites apply for participants of the Confined space Course in Melbourne:

  • (USI) Number-Unique Student Identification. If you do not have a USI one can be obtained here
  • Hold CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
  • Photo proof of ID (drivers licence/passport).
  • Have basic numeracy skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to speak and write English to a basic level.

Note: inform us upon registration If you feel you have any literacy or numeracy difficulties. Some reasonable adjustments to the course can be made to assist.
