Short Courses Australia provide a completed residential building inspection course for participants seeking employment as a building inspector of residential properties.

The course is recognised by the Queensland Building & Construction Commission (QBCC) and participants will receive a certificate of participation to submit to the QBCC when applying for a completed residential building inspection license.  

Short Courses Australia deliver the building inspection course face to face in a classroom and via real time connected delivery over three (3) days.

Participants will learn to inspect a property and report on minor and major defects. Central to the course is the Australian Standard AS4349.1 which is applicable for anyone undertaking pre-purchase building inspections across Australia.

Participants will be given access to current industry standard pre purchase buildingreport templates, and our facilitator will guide participants through how to identify and then report on the minor and/or minor defect.

The course covers important information regarding the mitigation of risk, specifically regarding obstructions and inaccessible areas.

Pre Requisites

To apply for a completed residential building inspection QBCC licence it is a requirement that you complete a Short Courses Australia approved completed building inspectors course and hold one of the following license classes:

(a) a current licence in one of the following licence classes:

  1. builder—low rise;
  2. builder—medium rise;
  3. builder—open; or

(b) accreditation as a building surveyor, assistant building surveyor or building surveyor technician:

  1. by the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors ACN 004 540 836 or;          
  2. by RICS Australasia Pty Ltd ACN 089 873 067; or
  3. that the commission considers is at least equivalent to accreditation by the bodies mentioned in (b)(i) and (b)(ii).

Practical Assessment

Participants will be asked to complete a pre purchase residential building inspection report on their own (or a friends) property.

The purpose of this assessment is to test your understanding of the terminology used, your awareness of Australian Standard AS4349.1 and to grade your understanding of how to complete and then submit a report to client in Queensland.

Certificate of Participation

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Certificate of Participation from Short Courses Australia (RTO 41261) in the course titled, Completed Residential Building Inspection Course.
